AI: AI Credit Top Up or On-Demand
planned
V
Vovwe Enyoyi
Business Problem
Customers are currently unable to increase their AI Credits once they reach their limit, forcing them to wait until the next billing cycle. This creates a significant disruption in critical business work flows, such as automated customer support and lead qualification, which rely on uninterrupted AI availability.
Desired Outcome
To enable customers to top up their AI Credits both manually and or automatically (e.g. similar to MAC overcharges).

Urgent: Options to Top Up / Increase AI Credits for High-Volume Accounts
Lucas Clemente
This is an
urgent request
for improvements to how AI credits are managed for high-volume accounts.Currently, the AI credit limit is a
major operational risk
for us:- We handle a large volume of conversationsusing AI Agents, especially withHTTP requests.
- These HTTP calls consume credits very quickly.
- Once we hit 100% of AI credits, all AI features (AI Agents, Assist, Prompt, etc.) are paused, which immediately disrupts our customer support operations.
For high-traffic environments, this is a
critical problem
because:- We can suddenly lose AI capabilities in the middle of the workday.
- It directly impacts response times, SLAs, and customer experience.
- There is no fast way to recover other than waiting for the next cycle.
We urgently need one or more of the following:
- The ability to purchase / top up additional AI credits immediatelywhen needed.
- Add-ons or specific plansdesigned for high AI usage / high-volume accounts.
- Better tools and controls to monitor and manage AI credit consumption, especially from AI Agent HTTP requests.
The goal is to ensure
continuous and reliable AI service
for companies with heavy usage, and to avoid complete AI shutdowns that affect business-critical operations.Lucas Clemente
I would also like to share a
real and urgent scenario
from my agency perspective:Right now, I have
three clients with high messaging volume on respond.io
who have already received the warning about reaching their AI credit limit. In all three cases, they are only using around 50% of their maximum messaging capacity
, yet they are already close to exhausting their AI credits. As an agency, this puts me in a very difficult position:
- I have to explain to these clients that once they hit the AI credit limit, their AI Agent will stop working until the next cycle.
- This is extremely hard to justify to clients who are still far from their messaging limits but are blocked only by AI credits.
- There is a very high risk that they will become frustrated or even angry with the platform, because from their point of view, they are paying for a solution that suddenly loses one of its key features (the AI Agent) without any quick way to fix it.
For us, this is a
huge operational and relationship problem
with our clients. Having options to top up or extend AI credits is not just a nice-to-have; it is critical
to maintain trust, avoid churn, and keep our clients confident in respond.io as a long-term solution.S

Critical Feature: AI Auto-Recharge & Workflow Resilience (Prevent Stalled Leads)
Inpulza Agency
Hello Respond.io team,
Currently, managing high-volume campaigns with the AI Agent presents a critical risk of operational continuity overnight or on weekends.
The Problem: During an active marketing campaign at 4:00 AM, my AI Credits ran out.
Outdated dashboard: The system notified me by email that I had a balance, but actual consumption was faster than synchronizing the dashboard.
No Auto-recharge: Unlike the WhatsApp balance, there is no automatic recharge option for AI. The operation was completely stopped.
“Frozen” Leads: The most serious thing is that, when AI fails due to lack of credits, the Workflow stops without a clear path to recovery. Even after manually reloading credits, contacts didn't automatically resume the conversation. I had to manually intervene one by one to reactivate them (“jumpstart”).
Requested Solutions (Feature Request):
✅ 1. AI Credits Auto-Recharge: We need an option to set up an automatic recharge when credits fall below a certain threshold (e.g. “If < 100 credits are left, recharge $50 USD”). It's vital for 24/7 campaigns.
✅ 2. Credit or Negative Balance “Buffer”: Allow the account to enter a small negative balance temporarily (e.g. up to -50 credits) so as not to cut a conversation in half, charging it on the next bill.
✅ 3. Workflow Auto-Resume: If an AI step fails because of “Insufficient Credits”, the system should pause the contact instead of fatally failing. Once new credits are detected, the system should have a “Retry Failed Steps” button or function to automatically resume all affected contacts, without the need for manual agent-to-agent intervention.
Impact: This would prevent the loss of qualified leads and advertising money during non-working hours.

Hello! This function is really important to us. We base our business on AI agents and, although it is possible to add MAC to increase this limit, an add-on would be very useful. Thank you!
Alberto MB
This feature is really a must have, without it, implementing AI agents is not possible in the long run, credits are really limited

Respond AI: AI credits management
J
Javier Garcia
Desired outcome
We need a capability as an organization to set Respond AI credit limit for each workspace.
Platform limitation
Respond AI is great! But it's active by default in all the workspaces. Many spaces abuse it while other spaces are unable to use it, because they reached the limit of credits.

Respond is an excellent tool and all its functions

If this is done per space instead of per organization would be really good. The way it is now of handling credits per organization without the possibility of assigning credits per space it’s not the best.
