Following v7.2, we released Gmail and we know a lot of our customers are very eager to connect to other email inboxes. After a lot of R&D on this, we finally found a way that is flexible enough to connect to ANY inboxes. Yes, any inboxes! For the big players like Gmail, Yahoo and Outlook, there will be additional connection steps to connect it to respond.io. As long as you have access to your inbox settings and forwarding rules, it can be connected to the platform. Connect your email inbox now and start receiving your emails on the platform. Refer here on how to connect IMAP/SMTP!

Mei Wei: I would like to specify an username / password different for smtp or imap. And username is not necessary an email with some provider. Thank you.

Hello Aurélien Droinat: can you share with us the integration documentation of the email provider you are using? We will have a look and see if there are some workaround.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon!

Jerry (CEO): Thx for your reply. We have tried with mailjet and clicksend, same issue. We use a local imap server and a remote smtp. Mailjet gives username (alphanumeric NOT email -> 1st problem)/password and clicksend username (email) / password. Actually we can't specify a different password from the imap one. It's the only problem we are encountering. Thank you.

Aurélien Droinat: I will ask my team to look into this. We will get back shortly :)

Hi Aurélien Droinat, we spent some time studying the way SendGrid and MailJet work. In the coming weeks we will add support for non-email usernames, that way you will be able to integrate with MailJet SMTP, however this will only solve the issue for outgoing emails, you will still not be able to receive emails (this requires a more complex integration using Webhooks). I have created a new feature request for a native MailJet integration. (See here: https://respond.canny.io/feature-request/p/new-channel-mailjet)
In the meantime, if you have developer resources, you can try to connect Mailjet using our upcoming "Custom Channel" (we are releasing this feature very soon!)
Out of curiosity, can you also share more information on why you would like to send emails from respond.io using Mailjet?

Shi Hui: Hello, if we will be able to add custom username (no email) & password for the smtp, it's perfect. We only need to user an external provider for SMTP so no on incoming email. We use Mailjet or other SMTP provider because they have better deliverability (it's their job), less spam box, etc. Custom Channel will also be great for us. Thank you.

Aurélien Droinat: Glad to to hear. In the just a couple of weeks, we will support non-email username, then you should be able to connect to other SMTP providers like Mailjet! At the mean time, stay tuned for the release of custom channel too 😛

To become a multi-service tool we will need to communicate with customers via email as well.

Perhaps it is one of the most necessary and important updates. From my point of view I would give enormous value to the tool.

This is important, as not everybody has Gmail Workspace or is necessary for them. Most of them depend on SMTP.
